Martyrs is what you get when you drop all pretenses with horror and dig into the deep well of tragedy. When a girl escapes a torture cult, she seeks revenge among visions of horrifying allegory. The idea that pain can equate to bliss and this justifying the torture was insane and the notion that a small-time vengeance story isn’t gratifying is stupid.
Loved the actual revenge but, alas, short lived. I also really liked the ghost haunting our heroine. Hated that family kitchen scene. So heart wrenching but I get it. Ooph, that ending. Wow.
