By the time I finished this movie, I felt noticeably older. Like, years flew by watching a family hate the beach. The idea was something but the execution fell a little flat for my love of Shymalamb films. The characters were great and it was set up where each falls to their own destined mortality but I almost couldn’t get into it due to the monotonous storytelling and repetitiveness. There are some wild scenarios and quickly evolving conditions that render the victims unable to conquer their situation which, after the trudge, is pretty fun.
Loved the idea that the kids age into adults without reverence for the years they are passing resulting in poor decisions and a growing sense of dread. Hated the isolated storytelling and parts of the ending. I did enjoy the retribution after the fact but not the idea that swimming out is the escape when it was tried earlier.
