7.75/10
I love me some Clive Barker and this was perfect in almost all aspects. The 90s urban setting as a subject of investigation into local Barker-ian folklore was incredible. The myth coming alive and its haunting repercussions were as fun as a hole in the medicine-cabinet wall (you’ll know this if you’ve seen it). Tony Todd will always be a pillar of perfection in dominant horror roles and this is no exception; he fucking MAKES Candyman. When a college student takes on local mythical boogeyman, she finds him. Done. Beautiful. Tony Todd; Icing.
Loved the ending. The idea of self sacrifice to subvert the idea of horror becoming reality was incredible. Hated the limited screen time of Candyman himself. It’s rad that he’s ethereal and ever present but I wish I could’ve gotten more time with the big guy.
I’ve said it thrice and now for twice more; “Candyman, Candyman.”
Done. (Now you’ve summoned him mentally. Reread aloud for extra fun.)
