6/10
I Love old grindhouse flicks and this one is no joke. It’s a ball’s-to-the-wall schlock-fest of satanic imagery and small town vengeance. Pure and ripe for MST3k, it is glorious in all frames and doesn’t let up on the potential it has to showcase mediocre gore and lo-fi fun times. When a satanic cult rides into a small town, a young boy feeds them rabies (in meat pies) and all hell breaks loose. Takes a minute for the ol’ gal to get up and running but when she does, the motor roars and she leaps.
Watched a great documentary about the director worried the title would make it seem like a vampire movie but never caught onto that. Love this flick for what it truly is; a mess of early 70s violence and cliche with zero budget. Also loved the musical cues so out of place. Hated that this never got any attention and was shelved for years. One of the first to receive an X rating and I loved the experience. The flick ends up being indecipherable from It’s contemporaries and dies in the heat of the climax for me.
