Spider Baby

Posted on November 4, 2025

Spider Baby (1967)
7.5/10

This flick is that rare cinematic gem where madness, murder, and charm all sit down for dinner—and someone spikes the sangria with godknowswhat. Lon Chaney Jr. gives a performance so endearingly tragic you almost forget he’s surrounded by a family of spider-obsessed weirdos, including a young Sid Haig, who treat etiquette like a contact sport. The film feels like a gothic fever dream.

By the time the dinner bell rings, you’re not sure whether to scream, laugh, or pour another glass. It’s is equal parts spooky and silly, with just enough camp to make you feel like you’ve stumbled into an inbred cocktail party. It’s creepy, kooky, and wonderfully off its rocker—proof that a little insanity (and maybe a splash(tidal wave) of sangria) makes everything better.
